The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment in absentia against two individuals suspected of committing war crimes during the 1998–1999 conflict in the village of Kaqanik i Vjetër, located in the municipality of Kaçanik, reports RKS News.

The accused, identified as J.J. and V.T., are charged with the criminal offense of “War Crimes Against the Civilian Population” under Article 142 of the Criminal Code of the former SFRY, which was in force at the time the crimes were allegedly committed.

According to the indictment, the suspects—in cooperation with other members of the Serbian military and police forces—are alleged to have killed two Albanian civilians, R.E. and M.H. They are also accused of physical and psychological abuse of the victims, as well as looting their property.

Due to the unavailability of the defendants to Kosovo’s justice authorities, the Prosecution has requested the Basic Court in Pristina to proceed with the trial in absentia.

The Special Prosecution emphasized its ongoing commitment to pursuing war crimes, ensuring justice for victims, and upholding accountability in accordance with international standards.
