Kosovo’s war veteran organizations – including the Organization of KLA War Veterans (OVL), the Union of KLA Invalids (SHIL), and the KLA War Martyrs’ Families Association (SHFD) – along with the Association of Political Prisoners and the “Lëvizja” Society, have issued a joint statement. They express deep concern over the deepening institutional crisis, which they attribute to an unnecessary political deadlock.
In a Facebook announcement, the organizations emphasized that it’s unacceptable for political parties, especially the winning party, to remain rigid in their constitutional obligations to constitute the Assembly and form institutions during a time of economic, social, and security crisis.
“We do not prejudge anyone, but when the state interest is jeopardized due to a lack of compromise and political stubbornness, then we feel it our duty to speak out publicly,” the statement reads.
Call for Political Maturity and Future Actions
The organizations called on all political entities to demonstrate political maturity and find a stable solution that respects the Constitution and the will of the citizens.
“The KLA did not fight for political deadlocks, but for a free and functional Kosovo. If the situation continues, we will take further steps to protect the values for which so much was sacrificed,” their reaction concluded.
Today marks the 40th attempt for MPs to convene and constitute the Assembly. Despite a Constitutional Court ruling obliging this to happen within 30 days, parliamentary parties have yet to agree on the Assembly’s constitution.
