Kosovo’s acting Minister of Finance, Labor, and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, has accused the opposition of obstructing Kosovo’s membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). According to Murati, this obstruction stems from the opposition’s decision to send the Law on Payment Services to the Constitutional Court.
Murati claims that in addition to blocking the Assembly’s constitution, the opposition is also “blocking Kosovo’s integration into these mechanisms.”
“The opposition’s blocking activity didn’t just start now with the blocking of the Assembly’s constitution. For example, the opposition has also blocked Kosovo’s integration into SEPA, by sending the Law on Payment Services to the Constitutional Court, a law which is a transposition of an EU directive and at the same time a precondition for integration into SEPA,” Murati stated.
He further highlighted the financial benefits of SEPA membership, noting, “SEPA is the European payment system that enables international money transfers at minimal cost. About 50 million euros in fees per year would be saved by our businesses and diaspora if we were to join SEPA. Is it perhaps Albin Kurti’s fault even for this?” Murati questioned.
