Albania officially inaugurated its Consulate General in Struga, marking a new chapter in the diplomatic and civic engagement between Albania and North Macedonia. The opening was hailed as a significant step forward by both Albanian Foreign Minister Igli Hasani and his North Macedonian counterpart Timço Mucunski.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Hasani emphasized the growing need for consular services due to the increased mobility of Albanian citizens, whether for tourism, seasonal work, or economic reasons.

“This consulate is not merely a document-issuing office, but a functional bridge between the Albanian state and its citizens – a space that delivers services and demonstrates institutional care,” said Hasani.

He also underlined Albania’s active approach to regional integration and joint development, highlighting the indispensable role of the Albanian political factor in North Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic integration journey.

“The Albanian political factor has played – and continues to play – an irreplaceable role, from state-building and democratization processes to unequivocal support for Euro-Atlantic integration. I especially commend the political maturity and unity shown by Albanian parties in prioritizing the common interest over partisan agendas,” he added.

Foreign Minister Mucunski welcomed the opening, noting its practical benefits and broader significance for cross-border ties:

“The Consulate General will provide citizens easier access to consular services and foster closer institutional cooperation between our two countries. This is especially important for individuals who regularly cross the border due to family ties, business, transit, or tourism.”

Mucunski concluded by calling the new consulate “an important link in the mosaic of long-standing excellent relations” between Albania and North Macedonia, strengthening not only diplomatic cooperation but also cultural and economic exchanges.
