Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has stated that the European Union has prepared a list of tariffs totaling €21 billion on U.S. goods if a trade deal between the two sides is not reached.
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 30% tariffs on imports from both Mexico and the EU starting August 1, after weeks of negotiations with America’s key trading partners failed to produce a comprehensive agreement.
In an interview with Il Messaggero, Tajani also emphasized that, to support the eurozone economy, the European Central Bank (ECB) should consider launching a new quantitative easing program, including bond purchases and further interest rate cuts.
