Sweden has announced its decision to join international efforts to supply Ukraine with weapons, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to facilitate military aid through NATO member states.

Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson, in a statement to Reuters, welcomed President Trump’s decision to impose sanctions on Russia and enable the delivery of Patriot air defense systems and other weapons to Ukraine.

“Sweden will make its contribution,” Jonson affirmed.

President Trump publicly announced on Monday, July 14, a new agreement between the United States and NATO, under which the supply of American weapons to Ukraine will be funded by European allies. The President also confirmed the deployment of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine as part of strengthening military support for Kyiv.

In line with this development, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Berlin and Washington would send two US-made Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine within days or weeks. Following this, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared that “Berlin will play a decisive role,” confirming Germany’s commitment to the joint efforts to bolster Ukrainian defense against Russian aggression.
