Tehran, July 21, 2025 – All government offices, banks, and businesses in Tehran province and the capital city of Tehran will be closed on Wednesday as temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius, prompting urgent energy conservation measures.

Iranian authorities announced the closures to cope with the extreme heat and to reduce electricity consumption amid rising demand, according to state media reports cited by the Associated Press.

Government spokesperson Fatema Mohajerani urged residents to limit their use of electricity and water during the peak heat hours, as reported by Iran Daily.

This marks the second time in just over a year that Iran has declared a public holiday due to weather conditions. In July 2024, a one-day heat-related closure was introduced, while in 2023, authorities ordered a two-day shutdown for the same reasons.

The Iranian Meteorological Service recorded the highest temperature in the past 24 hours in Borazjan, a city in the southern Bushehr province, where mercury soared to 50 degrees Celsius.

Residents are advised to remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day and take precautions against heat-related illnesses as the country faces intensifying climate challenges.
