Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has issued a direct warning to Israel, stating that Ankara will intervene if there is an attempt to divide Syria.

Accusations of Destabilization and Threat to National Security

During a joint press conference with his Salvadoran counterpart, Alexandra Hill, in Ankara, Fidan asserted that Israel does not desire stability in its vicinity and is attempting to divide Syria through violent unrest in the southern province of Suweida, where the Druze community is a majority.

“As Turkey, we cannot remain silent in the face of such an action,” Fidan said, emphasizing that clashes between Druze and Bedouin factions could only have been prevented through a military intervention by the Syrian central government.

In July, there were clashes between Arab Bedouin tribes and armed Druze groups in Suweida, southern Syria. The situation escalated on July 16, when the Israeli army carried out strikes near the Syrian presidential palace and the headquarters of the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense.

“We will consider it a direct threat to our national security and will intervene if there is an attempt at division or destabilization,” Fidan declared, warning Israel.

Ankara has played a key role in establishing a ceasefire in Syria following Israeli airstrikes targeting Damascus, as well as the Suweida and Daraa regions, under the justification of protecting the Druze community.
