Pristina, August 6, 2025 — The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Kosovo, Anu Prattipati, has issued a strong message to political parties, warning against any attempts to block the participation of qualified parties in the electoral process.

In a statement posted Wednesday on the official Facebook page of the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, it was revealed that Prattipati held meetings this week with leaders of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

“This week, Chargé d’Affaires Anu Prattipati met with leaders of PDK, AAK, and LDK to underscore a fundamental democratic principle: All citizens of Kosovo must be able to vote for their chosen representatives. Blocking qualified parties—through political or procedural tactics—undermines democracy,” the embassy said in its statement.

The discussions also touched upon the current political impasse over the formation of Kosovo’s new institutions following recent elections. Prattipati reminded party leaders of their duty to solve the country’s pressing challenges and urged cooperation in fulfilling the mandate granted by the people.

Political Leaders Respond

PDK Chairman Memli Krasniqi stated that he emphasized the need for swift formation of new institutions.
“PDK will continue to act responsibly, in the interest of citizens, for institutional stability, and remains committed to a strong partnership with the United States and our Western allies,” he wrote on Facebook.

LDK representatives said the meeting focused on the stalemate created by the Assembly’s failure to constitute.
“The importance of resolving this matter through the Constitutional Court was stressed, as LDK has already submitted the case for interpretation,” LDK noted in a statement, expressing hope for a fair decision that serves institutional stability.

AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj said he briefed Prattipati on his party’s commitment to contributing directly to the swift formation of new institutions arising from the elections.

Context

Kosovo is currently facing a political deadlock after failing to form its new legislature. The next scheduled elections are local, set to take place in October.
