The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have destroyed a large underground tunnel suspected to have been used by Hamas for military purposes, Israeli media including The Times of Israel report.

The tunnel was constructed beneath the densely populated urban areas of the Daraj and Tuffah neighborhoods in Gaza City—locations that have frequently witnessed intense clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants.

According to the IDF, Hamas used the tunnel for covert movement, arms storage, and other military operations. Its destruction is part of the ongoing offensive aimed at dismantling Hamas’s military infrastructure.

During the same operation, the IDF reportedly uncovered rocket launchers hidden inside a cemetery—an act they say demonstrates Hamas’s deliberate use of civilian sites for military purposes, thereby endangering the local population’s safety.

Israeli officials emphasize that these actions are necessary to prevent Hamas from rebuilding its military capabilities and to thwart future attacks on Israeli civilians.
