Iranian authorities announced on Saturday that they have arrested 20 individuals suspected of working as operatives for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, over recent months.
Earlier this week, Iran executed nuclear scientist Rouzbeh Vadi, who was convicted of espionage for Israel and of sharing sensitive information with another nuclear scientist killed during Israeli airstrikes on Iran in June, according to state media reports.
Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangiri told reporters in Tehran that charges against some of the arrested suspects were dropped and those individuals were released, though he did not specify how many.
“The judiciary will show no mercy toward spies and agents of the Zionist regime and will set a strong example for all through severe rulings,” Jahangiri was quoted as saying by Iranian media.
