The UN Office for Human Rights has condemned a targeted Israeli attack that killed six journalists in Gaza, describing it as a serious violation of international law, BBC reported, as shared by Gazeta Express.

Among those killed in the Israeli airstrike on Sunday were five Al Jazeera journalists, including correspondent Anas al-Sharif. Two others, including an independent journalist, were also killed, according to the broadcaster.

The Israeli military claimed it targeted Sharif, alleging he had “served as the head of a Hamas terrorist cell,” a claim Sharif denied. Israel provided little evidence to support this.

BBC learned that Sharif had worked with a Hamas media team in Gaza prior to the current conflict.

In his social media posts before his death, the journalist was heard criticizing Hamas.
