The White House announced that the homeless population in Washington, the reason President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard, will face fines or imprisonment if they do not leave the camps where they stay.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, speaking about the fate of the homeless in the capital, cited city codes giving individuals “the option to leave their camp and be sent to a homeless shelter where services for addiction or mental health are offered.”

Leavitt emphasized that if they refuse, “they will be fined or jailed.”

The National Guard arrived in Washington on Tuesday by President Trump’s order, aimed at combating what he described as crime in the city.
