Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Berlin on Wednesday to join German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for talks with European and American leaders ahead of the Trump-Putin summit later this week, the German government announced.
Merz has organized a series of virtual meetings on Wednesday in an effort to amplify the voices of European and Ukrainian leaders before a summit from which they have been excluded, AP reports.
Zelensky is expected to first meet with European leaders in preparation for a virtual call with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance about an hour later.
A final call will take place between leaders of the so-called “coalition of the willing” – countries prepared to help oversee any future peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv.
On Wednesday, Merz pledged to assist Ukraine in developing its own long-range missile systems, free from any Western-imposed restrictions on their use or targeting, as Kyiv continues its fight to repel the Russian invasion.
Zelensky last visited Berlin at the end of May.
The Trump-Putin meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday in Alaska.
