Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he told President Trump that sanctions against Russia must be strengthened “if there is no trilateral meeting or if Russia tries to avoid a fair conclusion to the war.”

“Sanctions are an effective tool,” he added in a statement, as reported by BBC.

He reiterated that “all important issues for Ukraine must be discussed with Ukraine’s participation, and no issue, especially territorial matters, can be decided without Ukraine.”

Following talks with Trump and coordination with European leaders, Zelensky stressed that the positions are clear: “A real peace must be achieved — a peace that will be lasting, not just another pause between Russian invasions.”

He called for an end to the killings, a ceasefire on land and in the skies, the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war, and maintaining pressure on Russia while the fighting continues.

“Security must be reliably and long-term guaranteed, with the involvement of Europe and the U.S.,” he concluded.
