U.S. Army aviation troops assigned to Regional Command – East within KFOR have assisted the Kosovo Emergency Management Agency in tackling wildfires that spread across the municipality of Gjakova.
According to a statement on KFOR’s official Facebook page, two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, equipped with special water buckets (Bambi Buckets), carried out multiple drops to help bring the fires under control, which had posed a threat to local communities and infrastructure.
“During a five-hour operation, crews conducted 12 water drops, releasing more than 2,500 liters of water over the affected areas,” KFOR confirmed.
The NATO peacekeeping mission emphasized that the action demonstrates its ability to respond rapidly to emergencies within its mandate, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting local communities and supporting civilian authorities in Kosovo.
