The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo today continued the sessions for its constitution.
As in previous sessions, the first proposal was the candidacy of Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Assembly.
After her failure to be elected, Vetëvendosje proposed Donika Gërvalla for the same position, IndeksOnline reports.
However, Gërvalla also did not secure the necessary votes to become Speaker of the legislature: 57 in favor, 56 against, and 3 abstentions.
On this occasion, the presiding chair of the session, Avni Dehari, invited deputies to attend the next session, scheduled for August 22.
This is the report published by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo:
Following the ruling of the Constitutional Court, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo convened today in the continuation of the constitutive session of the Ninth Legislature, with two remaining agenda items: the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the election of the Deputy Speakers.
Presiding Chair Avni Dehari requested the largest parliamentary group, namely Vetëvendosje, to propose a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.
On behalf of Vetëvendosje, MP Glauk Konjufca nominated Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Assembly.
Out of 116 deputies present in the hall, 57 voted in favor of the proposed candidate, 56 voted against, and three abstained.
Chair Dehari concluded that, based on the result, the proposed candidate did not receive the necessary votes to be elected Speaker of the Assembly. Consequently, he requested another proposal from the largest parliamentary group.
MP Konjufca then nominated Donika Gërvalla Schwarz for Speaker of the Assembly. After the voting process, the chair of the session announced that with 57 votes in favor, 56 against, and three abstentions, the proposed candidate did not obtain the required votes to be elected Speaker.
In these circumstances, Chair Dehari adjourned today’s session, announcing its continuation on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
