At least 60 migrants from Sudan and Nigeria were rescued off the coast of Libya after their boat sank while attempting to reach Italy, according to humanitarian sources.
The NGO rescue ship Nadir located the vessel in distress, saving dozens of lives but also recovering the bodies of three victims. The ship then set course for Lampedusa, Italy.
Meanwhile, the Italian Coast Guard patrol boat CP322 rescued a pregnant woman in her fourth month and a minor suffering from severe burns, both of whom were immediately transferred to Lampedusa along with 12 other survivors.
Among those rescued were four women, five minors, and relatives of the injured who are now being treated at the island’s polyclinic. Authorities confirmed that one woman remains missing.
This incident is the latest in a series of migrant tragedies in the Mediterranean, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis faced by thousands risking their lives to cross into Europe.
