Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated today that Serbia has a polarized media landscape, which he claims is creating societal polarization that does not exist in real life.

You have strongly anti-government and strongly pro-government media, just like in the U.S. and some other European countries. This is what creates this kind of polarization, which does not exist in the real lives of people,” Vučić told Euronews Global.

He emphasized that the state must provide a responsible and serious response to the societal crisis Serbia is facing.

Our role must be much greater, and we must be more responsible, without a doubt. That is why we are offering dialogue,” Vučić added.

Vučić explained that whenever he offered dialogue to the opposition, critics claimed it was because he was desperate, had no alternative, or feared his political opponents.

No. It is always a sign of strength, not weakness. I offer this at a very special moment when real change can be seen. People are increasingly against the demonstrators. People are tired of blockades and violence that has occurred, especially in recent weeks,” he said.

Regarding police response to protests and allegations of excessive force, Vučić stated that police intervened later using the minimal force necessary.

Are there isolated cases where one, two, or three officers used excessive force? Undoubtedly, that always happens somewhere, especially after nine months of protests. But if you compare scenes from Berlin, London, Brussels, or Paris with the situation in Belgrade, it is truly incomparable,” Vučić said.
