Kosovo’s Parliament Speaker Dimal Basha called on members of parliament to vote for Nenad Rašić as Deputy Speaker during a press conference today. Basha emphasized that Rašić represents the interests of Kosovo citizens and is committed to acknowledging the Republic of Kosovo in his role.
Basha Highlights Previous Voting Dynamics
- In the previous session, 55 MPs from the Vetëvendosje (VV) movement voted against Sllavko Simiq from the Serbian List.
- Other Albanian MPs abstained from that vote.
- Basha stressed that Rašić still has two remaining opportunities to secure votes under the Constitutional Court’s ruling, which allows a candidate to be considered up to three times.
Call for Cross-Community Support
Basha underlined that Rašić’s election as Deputy Speaker is a historic moment, offering the Kosovo Parliament a chance to include a Serbian community representative who respects Kosovo’s sovereignty. He urged all MPs, regardless of party affiliation, to support Rašić:
“Rašić represents a Serbian deputy who acknowledges the Republic of Kosovo and addresses its citizens. His election should have the support of all Kosovo MPs, as it serves the country’s interests.”
He also noted that the Serbian List has so far refused to run again, but called on MPs to seize this opportunity for unity and good governance.
