A 15-year-old adolescent has been sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention for the attack on Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay during a campaign rally in Bogotá in June.
The 39-year-old conservative senator was shot three times and underwent multiple surgeries, but succumbed to his injuries on August 11, 2025.
Authorities charged the minor with attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms. The attack shook Colombia, evoking memories of political violence in the 1980s and 1990s, when several presidential candidates and influential figures were assassinated.
Five other individuals, including Élder José Arteaga Hernández, have been arrested and charged in connection with the attack. Investigators believe the killing was orchestrated by a group of disaffected former FARC rebels. Uribe was shot in the head during the campaign rally on June 7.
