Ana Murganić, a Serb from North Mitrovica, together with her partner, a Croatian Armed Forces pilot and former KFOR member in Kosovo, will remain in pre-trial detention for 30 days.

Both were arrested by Croatian authorities on suspicion of espionage, specifically for allegedly passing classified information regarding northern Kosovo to the Serb List.

EULEX confirmed that Murganić is a former employee of their mission, as well as UNMIK. Reports indicate she had connections with several judges and prosecutors within these missions and allegedly used these connections to influence judicial proceedings against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK).

“EULEX Kosovo is aware of media reports involving an investigation against a former member of the EULEX Mission. The Mission is not in a position to comment further on the case at this time,” the mission said in a statement.

According to Croatian media, Murganić allegedly coordinated with her partner to collect sensitive information, which she then shared with the leadership of the Serb List, closely affiliated with the Serbian government. This reportedly included WhatsApp messages containing confidential information on KFOR movements and plans in northern Kosovo, particularly in areas with ethnic Serbian populations.

Experts on regional security, including Croatian foreign policy analyst Davor Gjenero, stated that such operations are consistent with previous Serbian intelligence activities in the region.

The couple had previously been arrested and released, but subsequent intercepted communications led to their re-arrest. The Croatian authorities have kept further details confidential due to the sensitivity of the case.

“She was recruited into these institutions by Serbian intelligence services to provide information and influence justice, particularly against UÇK members,” the report states.

It remains unclear whether Kosovo institutions are formally involved in the investigation.
