A 55-year-old Serbian citizen, wanted by German authorities for economic crimes, has been arrested at the Morinë border crossing by Albanian police.
According to the State Police, the individual was intercepted while attempting to enter Albania. Verification procedures, carried out in cooperation with German partners through Interpol Tirana, confirmed that he was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the Court of Mainz. He faces charges of tax evasion and illegal appropriation of wages and benefits belonging to others.
“During detailed entry/exit checks, aimed at cracking down on border-related illegalities and stopping internationally wanted persons attempting to evade justice, border police services in Morinë, in cooperation with Kukës Police, arrested the Serbian citizen G. S., 55 years old,” the statement read.
Authorities confirmed that Interpol Tirana is coordinating with German counterparts to finalize the extradition procedures.
