The Steering Council of SBASHK held its latest meeting, addressing several important issues affecting its membership and the education system in the country.

One of the main topics discussed was the shortage of school textbooks, a problem that has recurred this year as well. Presidents of the municipal levels reported that the situation is most severe in grades VI–IX, where there is a lack of books due to differences in student numbers compared to last year. Additionally, the textbooks that have been delivered are often damaged and nearly unusable.

“Another important point was the concern regarding the non-formation of the Assembly and the Government of Kosovo. The Steering Council assessed that prolonged delays are harming the educational process and the resolution of long-standing demands of education workers. It was agreed that once the Government is formed, SBASHK will initiate a dialogue to address the longstanding demands of its membership.”

SBASHK emphasized that if there is no willingness for dialogue and concrete results, it will undertake union actions, not excluding a general strike.

“Furthermore, the Steering Council unanimously decided that the leaders of the Trade Associations participating in the local elections on October 12 should resign from their union positions, or measures for their dismissal will be undertaken until the completion of the electoral process. At the end of the meeting, other topics related to the organization and functioning of the union were also addressed.”
