Ukraine is expanding its domestic arms industry with the support of Western partners, including Germany and the United States, as the Russian invasion enters its fourth year.
German-Rheinmetall Factory in Ukraine
The German defense company Rheinmetall plans to produce artillery shells for Ukrainian forces in a new factory in Ukraine.
“A plot of land in a secure region of Ukraine has been designated for the construction of a new Rheinmetall facility to produce shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” said Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal on the social platform X.
US-Ukraine Arms Collaboration
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed discussions with US envoy Keith Kellogg on expanding joint weapons production and implementing further sanctions against Russia.
“We discussed various ways to cooperate – how to achieve real peace and ensure Ukraine’s security,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
“Part of the talks included strong bilateral agreements for the joint production of drones and weapons, which we proposed to the US. We expect a positive response from Washington.”
Strategic Goal
Ukraine’s push for co-production aims to strengthen its military capacity and deter Russian aggression, while boosting the country’s domestic defense industry.
