Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed strong support for former KLA leaders on trial at the Special Court in The Hague, sharing the compelling testimony of James Rubin, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, which he says exposes the injustice faced by those who brought freedom.

Rama described the trial as a “staggering process that has severely tarnished international justice.”

“From the testimony of former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin in The Hague, a staggering process has gravely damaged international justice,” Rama stated.

He highlighted a sequence from Rubin’s testimony where the former diplomat expressed concern over the detention of former President Hashim Thaçi, despite Thaçi voluntarily surrendering to the court:

“The fact that the accused was held in prison for five years, after voluntarily presenting himself to the court at a time when he was ready to negotiate a peace agreement with the Serbian leadership, deeply concerned me. The interference of politics in the rule of law is alarming,” Rubin said.

Rama underscored his view that the trial undermines the principles of fair justice and casts a shadow over international legal standards.
