In recent days, during the trial of former KLA leaders at The Hague, much attention has been given to the relationship between Hashim Thaçi and Adem Demaçi.

The first two defense witnesses, former diplomat James Rubin and former legal advisor of the Albanian delegation at Rambouillet, Paul Williams, were repeatedly questioned by defense lawyers and prosecutors about the interactions of these two figures during the war.

However, a month ago, Hashim Thaçi himself spoke about Adem Demaçi from his cell at The Hague.

In a written statement given to journalist Adriatik Kelmeni through the detention center in The Hague, Thaçi highly praised the figure of this symbol of resistance.

While describing his entry into Prishtina to visit his father, who was hospitalized, Thaçi criticized Kosovo’s institutions for not yet placing a bust of Demaçi in the city.

The former president of Kosovo said that the freedom of Kosovo itself is a monument to Adem Demaçi.

“I passed by the area where previously the statue of A. Demaçi was supposed to be placed; there was nothing new, I was not surprised, I understood the unreasonable reason for the delay, and I said to myself: ‘THE FREEDOM OF KOSOVO IS A MONUMENT TO ADEM DEMAÇI.’ Therefore, no bust, plaque, or statue can replace the freedom of a people,” Thaçi stated in the interview, which was published on July 24 of this year.
