Serbia has announced plans for a diplomatic offensive against Kosovo on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, taking place from September 23 to 29.

So far, officials in Kosovo’s government and the presidency have not revealed what steps they will take in response to Serbia’s campaign.

Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani is currently in the United States, where she has held several meetings with the Albanian community. On social media, she also shared details of a meeting with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.

“I emphasized the importance of cooperation between Kosovo and the Arab League, as well as the need for support in the recognition process by member states that have not yet taken this step,” Osmani wrote on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Serbian officials argue they can capitalize on what they call “Pristina’s diplomatic failures” to strengthen Belgrade’s position with the United States and Western partners. Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Gjurić said preparations are underway for what he described as a shift in the international community’s stance on Kosovo.

“By engaging with key international actors, we have reached a point where some countries that strongly supported Kosovo’s so-called independence are now speaking loudly and clearly against the actions of Kurti’s government,” Gjurić claimed.

However, according to Serbian daily Danas, Gjurić did not provide details on what this shift entails, noting that while certain key players may echo Belgrade’s narrative, none have announced any drastic policy reversal against Pristina.

This approach by Serbia runs contrary to the Brussels Agreement and the 2023 Ohrid Annex, in which Belgrade committed not to oppose Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has also confirmed that he will travel to New York, where his agenda includes a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
