One person has died and another was injured following gunfire and powerful explosions Wednesday morning in the Lerchenauer Straße district, in northern Munich.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect planted explosives in his parents’ home, set it on fire, and then committed suicide. Thick smoke was visible early in the morning, and the area has been cordoned off for safety.
Security forces, including special units, firefighters, and explosive experts, are on-site collecting evidence and securing the perimeter. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to clarify all circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police Chief Thomas Schelshorn assured the public that residents are not at risk and confirmed that the incident is unrelated to the ongoing Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich.
