Journalist Lulzim Mulliqi, who lives and works in the United States, has commented on the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Speaking on the show “Ora Shtatë”, Mulliqi said the crisis stems from divisions between Democrats and Republicans.
“Since Monday, all American media, citing the country’s most prestigious outlets, have reported that by October 1, Congress must approve the budget for federal agencies. In the absence of an agreement, many public agencies risk suspending or fully/partially shutting down their operations,” he explained.
“This is happening due to clashes and divisions between the two wings – Republicans and Democrats,” Mulliqi added.
On how long the federal government might remain shut down, Mulliqi expressed skepticism about a quick agreement.
Meanwhile, the shutdown is expected to leave hundreds of thousands of federal workers without pay and halt many government programs and services.
