The Albanian national football team will begin preparations on Monday for one of the most crucial matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers — the encounter against Serbia, scheduled to take place in Leskovac on October 11.

The President of the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF), Armand Duka, spoke about the significance of this match and the team’s expectations heading into it.

Duka hinted that if Albania fails to qualify, there could be discussions regarding changes in the national team’s staff, but stressed that the upcoming match will not determine coach Sylvinho’s fate.

“It’s not true that we have decided Sylvinho’s future based on the result of this match. What we have said is that if we qualify, there will be no reason to discuss changing the staff. If we fail to qualify, there will naturally be discussions — from us, from his staff, or even from him personally. So this match will not decide Sylvinho’s future,” Duka told Top Channel.

Remaining optimistic, Duka expressed confidence that Albania can secure all three points.

“A victory would make us more confident in achieving the playoff objective, while a draw keeps us in contention. But we’re going into the match for three points, fully aware that they’ll be difficult to get. No one should think we’re favorites. I believe it’s an open game, and we have the ability to take all three points,” he said.

Regarding the change of venue from Belgrade to Leskovac, Duka said it doesn’t make much difference.

“I don’t see it as a big advantage or disadvantage. What matters is that the pitch is in good condition, so the players can perform well,” he noted.

Finally, Duka emphasized that Albania has a stronger and more cohesive squad than Serbia, underscoring his belief in the group’s quality and unity ahead of this decisive qualifier.
