The first round of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Egypt has concluded in a positive atmosphere, according to reports from Egypt’s state television on Tuesday morning.
The talks, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, are expected to resume later in the day, with mediators working to advance progress.
Egyptian and Qatari mediators are reportedly working with both sides to establish a mechanism for the release of all hostages in exchange for prisoners, as reported earlier by Al-Qahera News TV in Cairo.
The negotiations are based on a 20-point peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which aims to end the ongoing conflict and secure the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody.
The talks come on the eve of the second anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, which took place on October 7, 2023, and triggered the war.
