European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen easily survived two attempts to remove her from office, as the European Parliament rejected no-confidence motions brought forward by far-right and far-left groups on Thursday, October 9.

Out of 720 MEPs, 378 expressed support for von der Leyen and her team of commissioners in the first vote, and 383 in the second.

The results show slightly stronger support compared to July, when 360 MEPs voted against a motion primarily initiated by far-right members. However, the numbers remain below the 401 votes von der Leyen received in July 2024, when she was re-elected as Commission President.
