Ahead of Kosovo’s local elections on Sunday, October 12, Kreshnik Radoniqi, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), has issued a message encouraging all eligible citizens to participate and express their democratic will freely.

Radoniqi emphasized the importance of exercising constitutional and democratic rights:

“We invite all citizens to exercise their right to vote and choose their representatives. Your participation is of particular importance, and we urge you to be part of this process,” he said.

He also called on members of the election boards to act with responsibility, professionalism, and impartiality, strictly following legal procedures to ensure that citizens’ votes are fully protected.

The CEC is working closely with the Kosovo Police and the State Prosecutor’s Office to guarantee a smooth, fair, and secure voting process across all municipalities.

Regarding mobile voting, the CEC reported that 3,467 voters are registered to vote through mobile teams:

  • 1,508 are homebound voters
  • 1,956 are in institutions such as health clinics, elderly homes, detention centers, and correctional facilities
  • 3 voters are under house arrest

CEC member Ilir Gashi expressed hope for a problem-free process and stressed timely deployment of mobile teams to ensure voting concludes by 7:00 PM.

Arianit Elshani reminded voters to verify their assigned polling stations, as some locations have changed due to updated voter databases.

Sami Kurteshi, another CEC member, provided clarifications about the preliminary results publication process, noting that the new technological platform for results meets all functional and security criteria.

“We hope to avoid the issues experienced on February 9. The staff’s effort over the past three months has been extraordinary,” the CEC stated.
