Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will attend the Gaza Summit on Monday in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly called Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi together with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and it was agreed that Netanyahu will participate in the peace summit, which will also be attended by President Abbas, AFP reported.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron had also announced Abbas’s participation in the summit in Egypt.
Abbas remains a rival of Hamas, whose October 7, 2023 attack on Israel triggered the devastating war in Gaza.
The summit, co-chaired by President Trump and President el-Sisi, will bring together more than 20 world leaders to mark the ceasefire in Gaza and oversee the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
The meeting coincides with the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas for two years. The exchange of hostages and prisoners forms part of the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States and President Donald Trump.
