The leader of the Alternativa party, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, has rejected claims that Prime Minister Albin Kurti publicly insulted other political leaders on election night. She clarified that Kurti’s remarks had been misinterpreted and were not directed at any party heads.
Kusari-Lila Clarifies Kurti’s Remarks
Speaking on the TV program Review, Kusari-Lila explained that Kurti had referred to an economic statistic mentioned by a representative of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) — not to the party leaders themselves.
“It is not true that Albin Kurti called three political representatives ‘hajvana’ (idiots) on election night,” Kusari said. “He referred to an economic statistic presented by one of the LDK representatives — not Lumir Abdixhiku, but another individual — who was speaking about economic growth.”
Opposition Blamed for Political Deadlock
Kusari-Lila also argued that the current political crisis in Kosovo stems not from the government but from the opposition’s refusal to accept the election results.
“The insults and accusations reflect their stubbornness in refusing to accept the outcome,” she stated. “The opposition’s problem has been its unwillingness to reflect and to recognize positive developments, which has damaged its credibility.”
She emphasized that greater cooperation between the opposition and the government would benefit the country, especially on key national issues such as security in the north, the removal of criminal groups, and Kosovo’s stance toward the Serb List.
“If this opposition had aligned with the government on issues in the North, the removal of criminal groups, and a principled position toward the Serb List, we would have been in a completely different situation,” she concluded.
Context: Political Tensions After Failed Government Vote
Kusari’s comments come after the Kosovo Assembly failed to approve the formation of Kurti’s third government, a development that has deepened divisions among major political parties.
Her remarks follow criticism from several opposition leaders who accused Kurti of using offensive language during his post-election speech — a claim she has now firmly dismissed.
