Pope Leo, the first American Pope, will embark on his first international trip later this year, visiting eight cities across Turkey and Lebanon, the Vatican announced on Monday. The visit is expected to center around calls for peace and unity throughout the region.
According to Reuters, Pope Leo will stay in Turkey from November 27 to 30, and then continue his journey to Lebanon from November 30 to December 2.
His predecessor, Pope Francis, had previously planned to visit both countries but was unable to do so due to declining health. Pope Francis passed away on April 21, and Pope Leo was elected on May 8 by the College of Cardinals.
The upcoming trip marks an important diplomatic and spiritual mission, reflecting Pope Leo’s intent to strengthen dialogue among faiths and promote reconciliation in a region long affected by conflict.
