The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Dimal Basha, has warned of a looming salary crisis threatening the public sector, including Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).

Basha stated that the Assembly Presidency, which met today, failed to address three critical issues: the RTK budget, the annual budget of the Republic of Kosovo, and the budgets of three municipalities.

“Unfortunately, no agreement was reached on any of these points. I had expected that if there was political will, it would have been possible to form the committees necessary to process the RTK budget, the three municipal budgets, and the annual budget without violating constitutional or legal norms,” he said.

He emphasized that parliamentary parties failed to find a common understanding on these matters.

“For the first two, at least I expected some agreement, but some political parties refused,” Basha added.

Basha warned of a serious salary crisis if the annual budget and the RTK budget are not passed in the Assembly.

“It is unfortunate because, as you know, the budgets of the three municipalities are at risk, as is the RTK budget, and over 700 employees may not receive salaries as a result,” he said. “Even more than 80,000 public officials could be left without pay.”
