The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) stated that reappointing Glauk Konjufca as the mandate holder for forming a government under Vetëvendosje (LVV) is a waste of time, unnecessary delay, and a deepening of the country’s institutional crisis. It is now clear that no party holds a parliamentary majority capable of forming a government from this legislature.

In today’s regular meeting of the PDK Presidency, discussions focused on current political developments, the results of the first round of local elections, and strategies for upcoming runoff elections.

The party reiterated a unified position: PDK will not vote for any mandate holder from LVV, emphasizing that early elections are the only solution to overcome the political deadlock. This would return the decision-making power to the citizens and restore legitimacy to Kosovo’s institutions.

“The prolonged crisis this year, caused by Vetëvendosje, has harmed all sectors. The risk that the state budget will not pass on time, leaving citizens without salaries next year, makes it even more urgent to accelerate the process toward new elections,” the PDK statement read.

PDK leader Memli Krasniqi expressed gratitude for the support of party members and voters, highlighting the party’s return to the top position in local elections after 12 years, with 187,526 votes, securing 206 seats in municipal assemblies, surpassing other parties.

The party also increased total votes for mayoral candidates, ranking second overall, and won three municipalities in the first round. Krasniqi called on the party to continue mobilizing for victories in Mitrovica, Prizren, Vushtrri, Kaçanik, Klinë, and Dragash, ahead of the November 9 runoff elections.

Yesterday, Vetëvendosje proposed Glauk Konjufca as mandate holder for the formation of a new government, following Albin Kurti’s unsuccessful attempt on October 26. Konjufca became the first mandate holder in post-war Kosovo history to fail to secure the necessary parliamentary votes.
