The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) for the inappropriate and discriminatory behavior of Serbian fans during the World Cup 2026 qualifier against Albania, held on October 11 in Leskovac.

According to the FSS statement, FIFA imposed a fine of 87,500 Swiss francs (approximately €93,981) for the fans’ offensive conduct during Albania’s national anthem and for discriminatory chants throughout the match.

In addition to the financial penalty, Serbia will be required to partially close at least 25% of the stadium capacity for its next home qualifying game, scheduled against Latvia in Leskovac.

During the match, Serbian supporters were reported to have shouted anti-Albanian and anti-Kosovo slogans, creating a hostile and politically charged environment that violated FIFA’s zero-tolerance policy on hate speech and discrimination.

FIFA emphasized that such behavior undermines the spirit of fair play and respect that international football is meant to uphold, warning that repeated offenses could lead to harsher sanctions, including full stadium closures or point deductions.

This is not the first time Serbia has faced punishment for fan misconduct involving Albania or Kosovo, reflecting persistent issues with nationalism and intolerance in sections of its fan base—a problem that both FIFA and UEFA have repeatedly urged Serbian authorities to address more effectively.
