U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed the reason behind the cancellation of the planned summit in Budapest with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The fundamental disagreement is that they simply don’t want to stop yet,” Trump said, referring to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The American president emphasized that the invasion of Ukraine would never have happened if he had been in the White House, adding that “this happened under Biden.”
The statements came after Trump’s meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, during which the two leaders discussed regional stability. Trump noted that he still hopes to hold the summit in Budapest if conditions become favorable.
Both Trump and Orbán agreed that the war in Ukraine must come to an end as soon as possible.
