Former diplomat Enver Hoxhaj has openly expressed his intention to run for the position of President of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

Hoxhaj emphasized that PDK must reclaim its historical and symbolic role in Kosovo’s political life:

“I am speaking about a party that, in 2025, stands on the foundations of Kosovo’s freedom, independence, and state-building. It must reclaim its historic role. I was part of the most important period of state formation. These shoes and suits I wear are from when Kosovo declared independence in 2008.”

He also recalled his personal role in the independence negotiations and declaration:

“I negotiated for independence during 2006–2007 with a team of colleagues, and I have my signature on the Declaration of Independence.”

Hoxhaj expressed concern about the current direction of Kosovo’s institutions:

“I am very concerned that Mr. Kurti, during 2025, is carrying out a political revolution that overturns every democratic and state institution.”

Regarding his ambitions for PDK, he spoke of a major political moment to close the year and open a new chapter:

“I want to create a major event that closes the chapter of 2025 and opens a new one. I want it to serve Mr. Thaçi, Mr. Veseli, Mr. Krasniqi, and Mr. Selimi, because the issues we face are human, and they are facing injustices. In the spring, I want to see them back in Kosovo, with a stronger PDK.”

He called for reuniting the party and bringing back influential figures:

“PDK must unite in Drenas, in Kaçanik, and bring back all those who have given so much for the party. The party must open up, refresh itself, and show courage and leadership.”
