The Union of Workers of Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK) has announced that it has sent official letters to several of Europe’s highest institutions, including Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Viola von Cramon, EU Parliament rapporteur for Kosovo.
In these communications, the union outlined the severe financial situation at RTK, where employees have still not received their salaries, even as December approaches. According to the union, this is a highly concerning development that constitutes a violation of labor and human rights, putting the economic well-being of hundreds of families at risk.
“Salary is a fundamental right, guaranteed by domestic law and European standards,” the union stressed, calling for urgent action by Kosovo institutions to resolve the crisis.
As part of their response and mobilization, the RTK workers’ union has announced a one-hour strike tomorrow at 11:00 AM in the RTK courtyard. All employees are invited to suspend work as a symbolic and decisive act demanding a solution.
The union emphasized that the current situation is unacceptable and confirmed that they are prepared to take all necessary legal and union measures to ensure regular payments and the sustainable functioning of the public media service.
Finally, the union called on institutions to act immediately and prevent the crisis from deepening further, which could jeopardize the continuation of RTK’s public mission.
