Two members of the National Guard were shot on Wednesday in Washington, near the White House.

President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time of the incident, as he is currently in Florida.

Trump said the two National Guard members were “seriously injured” and that the attacker is also “seriously wounded.”

“The animal who shot the two National Guard members — both seriously wounded and now in two different hospitals — is also seriously wounded, but regardless, will pay a very heavy price,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The Secretary of the Interior, Kristi Noem, said in a social media post that two Guard members had been shot and that her department is working with local police to gather more details.

Washington police said a suspect has been arrested and taken into custody after the shooting, which occurred one block from the White House, adding that the area has been secured.

“The President has been briefed,” said White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.

Trump is at his Palm Beach resort ahead of Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance is in Kentucky.
