Chancellor Rachel Reeves has rejected claims that she misled the public about the United Kingdom’s finances in the lead-up to her Budget, BBC reports, as relayed by Rks News.

Reeves faced questioning on BBC over why she had repeatedly warned of lower economic productivity forecasts—including in a speech on November 4—prior to Wednesday’s Budget.

It has since emerged that the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) informed her in mid-September that public finances were in better shape than widely believed, though Reeves did not mention the forecast for higher wages.

Reeves stated that the OBR’s figures clearly indicated there was “less fiscal space than there actually was” and insisted she had been “transparent” about her decision-making.

However, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch reiterated her call for the Chancellor to resign.
