NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the Alliance expects Serbia to bring to justice those responsible for the 2023 terrorist attack in Banjska.
Rutte said he discussed the matter with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who, according to him, expressed readiness to work toward this goal.
“My predecessor worked on this with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. I have also spoken with him personally, and he told me he will work on it. We expect the Serbian authorities to do their part in this direction,” Rutte said when asked by TV1 journalist Venhar Isufi, ahead of the meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
He added that NATO is closely following the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and the Alliance will continue to support this process.
In September 2023, a terrorist group from Serbia carried out an attack in Banjska, Zveçan, where Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku was killed.
The group was led by Milan Radoičić, former vice-chairman of the Serb List. The Kosovo Special Prosecution has filed indictments against 45 members of the group.
Meanwhile, three members captured during the police operation in Banjska are currently on trial.
Kosovo has formally requested that Radoičić and the other perpetrators be extradited by Serbia.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has set the extradition of Radoičić as a precondition for continuing the dialogue with Serbia.
