The French Ambassador to Kosovo, Olivier Guérot, announced that he held a meeting with President Vjosa Osmani, during which they discussed the current political situation and the upcoming 28 December early elections.
In a statement shared on social media, Guérot underscored the importance of ensuring that all political parties are able to participate fully in the electoral process, stressing the need for elections that are inclusive and genuinely democratic.
He also highlighted the essential role of the press in democratic societies.
“The role of free media is fundamental in a functioning democracy. Journalists must be respected and, when necessary, protected,” Guérot stated.
The French ambassador reiterated France’s expectation that the December elections will lead to the formation of a new government, emphasizing that “France needs a fully functional partner to contribute to regional stability and to strengthen our bilateral relations.”
Guérot informed President Osmani of France’s readiness to support Kosovo in several key areas, including:
- the country’s energy transition,
- preparations for the 2030 Mediterranean Games,
- Kosovo’s efforts to become a full member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie,
- and the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
