In a live segment on Balkan Talks, Kosovar security expert Bedri Elezi discussed expected developments in the region.

According to Elezi, based on available information, a planned visit by the President of the United States to Tirana in 2027 could mark a historic moment for Kosovo, described as a “Second Independence,” through the country’s membership in NATO, reports Euronews.

“According to the information we have, the US President’s visit to Tirana in 2027 could mark a major milestone for Kosovo, as it will represent a ‘Second Independence,’ with the United States and President Trump expected to announce Kosovo’s NATO membership in Tirana,” Elezi said.

He also emphasized the strategic importance of the new anti-missile defense system expected to be installed in Kosovo.

“This air defense system is expected to enhance security not only for Kosovo but for the entire Balkan Peninsula, providing protection against potential regional threats,” Elezi explained.

Elezi added that, as part of new American commitments in the Balkans, the military base in Ferizaj will be upgraded and transformed into a US military base equipped with the air defense system. This initiative is aimed at strengthening security across Kosovo and the wider region.
