Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated last night, after his meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that they also discussed Serbia’s ongoing energy concerns and that it is only a matter of time before the U.S. issues a warning about secondary sanctions.

“Honestly, I am satisfied with the course, manner, and tone of the conversation, especially regarding the energy situation, which is not easy for us even today, and will only become more difficult each day. It has now been 61 or 62 days since not a single drop of oil has arrived at our refinery, and the question is only when the warning of secondary sanctions will come for the central bank and commercial banks — and that is when the real problems begin,” Vučić said during last night’s press conference.

He added that they discussed where and how Serbia might import petroleum products from neighboring countries and how new oil pipelines could be built.

“I am not yet extremely worried about gas, but I am about oil. Of course, I am worried as a responsible person, but we have been looking for solutions and working on them, and I hope we will have the EU’s support for these important issues,” Vučić said.
