President Vjosa Osmani was received by the President of the European Council, António Costa, in Brussels, where she traveled to take part in the EU–Western Balkans Summit.

She stated that during the meeting with Costa she called for the full lifting of punitive measures against Kosovo, noting that while Kosovo welcomes the EU’s decision to partially lift the measures, it hopes and continues to work toward their complete removal as soon as possible.

Osmani also requested that Kosovo be granted EU candidate status.

“The Republic of Kosovo has demonstrated constructiveness, cooperation, and full alignment with the European Union’s foreign and security policy. In the meeting, I emphasized that Kosovo has fulfilled all the conditions set by the EU itself, however unfair they may have been. Therefore, there is no reason to delay or obstruct the lifting of the remaining measures. On the other hand, we hope that as soon as possible we will receive the support of all member states so that Kosovo, based on merit, is granted candidate status for membership in the European Union,” Osmani said.
